How to Use Earthworms to Catch Giant River Fish After a Night of Rain and Sell Them at the Market

How to Use Earthworms to Catch Giant River Fish After a Night of Rain and Sell Them at the Market

After a night of heavy rain, the river looks completely different. The water is higher, the riverbank is wet, and small streams of muddy water flow toward the main channel. As morning arrives, we head down to the river, hoping the changing conditions will bring an exciting fishing opportunity.

Before starting, we check local fishing regulations and make sure our equipment and fishing methods are legal. We also choose a safe location away from unstable riverbanks and strong currents.

Earthworms are collected or purchased as natural bait. Their scent can attract many freshwater fish, making them a useful option for ordinary hook-and-line fishing.

The Morning After the Rain

The sky is still covered with gray clouds when we arrive. Water droplets cling to the leaves, and the smell of wet soil fills the air.

The river is moving faster than usual.

We carefully prepare our fishing rods, hooks, lines, and bait. The earthworms are placed securely on the hooks, and the lines are cast into suitable areas where fishing is permitted.

Then we wait.

The river is surprisingly quiet.

A few birds call from the trees, while floating leaves drift across the surface.

Suddenly, the fishing line twitches.

We look at each other.

Another small movement follows.

Then the line pulls hard.

Something is definitely there.

We carefully work with the fish, allowing it to move without forcing the equipment. The water splashes near the riverbank as the fish struggles.

After a tense moment, a large river fish appears beneath the surface.

We safely bring it close, identify the species, and check that it meets the applicable size and catch requirements.

It's an exciting start to the day.

The River Comes Alive

As the morning continues, the river becomes more active.

The rain has washed insects and other natural food into the water, and fish seem to be moving around more than usual.

We continue fishing responsibly, checking our equipment regularly and keeping only the amount allowed under local regulations.

Some casts produce nothing.

Others bring smaller fish that are released carefully.

Then another powerful bite comes.

This fish pulls the line toward deeper water, creating a dramatic splash. We remain patient and carefully guide it closer.

Finally, another large fish reaches the riverbank.

The excitement is incredible.

Preparing the Fish for Market

After fishing, the catch that can legally be kept is handled carefully and kept properly chilled.

If the fish are being sold, they are transported and handled according to local food-safety and market requirements.

At the market, customers gather around the fresh catch.

The fish are weighed, inspected, and prepared for sale.

For us, the morning's work has become more than an exciting fishing trip. It has also become a source of income for the family.

A Lesson From the River

The most memorable part of the adventure isn't simply catching a giant fish.

It's experiencing the river after the rain.

The fresh smell of wet earth.

The sound of rushing water.

The dark clouds slowly disappearing.

The sudden movement of fish beneath the surface.

And the excitement of watching a fishing line suddenly pull tight.

Fishing teaches patience. It also teaches responsibility.

We take only what we are legally allowed to keep, release unwanted fish carefully, avoid damaging the riverbank, and leave the fishing area clean.

As the afternoon sun finally appears through the clouds, we pack away our equipment.

The river continues flowing peacefully.

We head home tired but happy, carrying the day's memories—and knowing that another fishing adventure may be waiting after the next rain.
